Got a pocket knife when I was 9
With a blade as sharp as a razor
Cut through the bark of a back yard tree
Like writing my name on paper
My sister kept a journal
Which was cool if you're a girl
So I came up with a big idea
For my own little world

I'd use the knife dad gave me
Scratch out what I did lately
Into the sycamores behind the house
Made a target for my slingshot
Drew the biggest fish that I caught
